All White on Oscars Night

Indulging in a little (a lot) of red carpet oohing and aahing today post Oscars! There was a bit of a bridal feel to the whole evening with quite a lot of Hollywood’s leading ladies opting for glorious gowns in paler shades of the colour spectrum. Here are our top three of the bridal variety.

Here comes the Bridesmaid… part duex!

Hooray for Friday!!! Perhaps you have a weekend shopping trip planned with your bridesmaids so today we are focusing on the business of making them look gorgeous on your big day.

Where to start???  Over the past few years high street shops such as Coast and Karen Millen have helped to bring fashionable bridesmaid/evening dresses to the masses and are a good place to start your search.  Amsale, stocked in The White Room is Mullingar has a really great selection as does Dresscode, based in Hickeys of Henry Street in Dublin.  Watters, WTOO and the Dessy group also have great offerings both in terms of style and colour and are stocked in various Bridal rooms around the country.

Primary colours and pastels are still the most popular choices for bridesmaid dresses however pattern and stripes while a little less orthodox, can also be a gorgeous alternative.  Ted Baker has some very pretty floral maxis which would look beautiful with plain coloured bouquets for a spring or summer wedding.

Shopping with your maids for their dresses should be fun but it can be stressful if you have many bridesmaids as the chances of finding one dress that will suit all can be pretty slim.  While traditionally all bridesmaids wore the exactly the same dress and this is still a very popular choice, increasingly there is a trend towards mix and match dresses.

Dressing your ladies in different styles of the same dress is a great way to ensure that all of your maids feel comfortable and are wearing a style that best suits their shape.  The Twobirds range of Bridesmaid dresses, available at The Bridal Lounge in Dublin, not only have a huge range of colours on offer but offer amazing flexibility by allowing you to choose one dress which has 15 different tying options from halter neck, strapless, one shoulder to sweetheart and cap-sleeved dresses.

Image

If you have a particular style in mind but finding a colour tone to suit all is proving difficult why not choose complementary tones or shades of the same style dress to fit into your wedding colour scheme.

Or for ultimate flexibility just pick a colour palette and allow your ladies to choose their own style and shade.

Dress Trends for 2013

Now that the dust has settled on New York fashion week, we have been taking stock of what’s hot for Spring Summer 2013.

Lace once again graced every runway but if you fancy something a little more daring then it really is a case of bringing sexy back with the stunning collection of backless gowns that were showcased; from barely-there lacy details and sheer panels to head-turning backless collections, these dresses are all about getting the wow factor as you walk up the aisle!

Continuing on from the 2012 fashion trend, Peplum was also big news on the catwalks for Spring Summer 2013 Bridal collections featuring in Amsale, Lusia Becaria and the queen of bridal, Monique Lhuillier’s, line up.   Our favourite of the peplums was by Carolina Herrera – simple, stunning and timeless.

However my absolute favourite trend for 2013 has to be the long sleeve gown – beautiful and so so graceful!  Chances are your mother wore a long sleeve wedding gown but this trend has taken a back seat for quite a while now. For 2013 it’s back with a bang thanks to Kate Middleton, with long sleeve gowns featuring in all bridal collections – Monique Lhuillier and Reem Arca worked the long sleeve trend beautifully in keeping with the focus on lace and delicate sheer panelling to create a collection of gowns which can only be described as AMAZING!

If you are more Kate Moss than K. Mid there is an equally beautiful collection of the long sleeve variety with a boho twist on offer from Temperly London, Pronovias and Claire Pettibone.

Choosing one favourite has proved impossible so I chose my many favourites instead!
